FAQ

Safety in Africa

African countries are deeply different to each other and generalizations are not suitable. Most countries in Southern and East Africa (specifically South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda) offer very favorable conditions for tourism. There are social problems, but urban violence is not endemic and the tourist regions are normally safe. South Africa and Namibia have excellent transport infrastructure, roads are safe and well signposted, aviation is organized and reliable. Even countries with less developed infrastructure, such as Zambia or Malawi, offer safe and authentic travel experiences. The northern countries, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt, are more unstable and deserve some special attention, which are addressed in each specific itinerary. Health precautions should be observed, especially in malaria high incidence areas (please see specific information). With good sense and reliable information, most tourist destinations in Africa are very safe. We do not offer packages at any destination that may present health problems, ethnic conflicts, civil war, risk of terrorism or political and social instability.
