When traveling to South Africa, US dollars, UK pounds or euros are widely accepted at most banks to be converted to rands. In Mauritius, Seychelles and Reunion euros are easier to convert and also accepted in most hotels and restaurants. Elsewhere in Africa, US dollar is the best option. Except in the islands, it is always necessary or better to change for the local currency.
