FAQ

Money and tips

Guides on prepaid tours should be rewarded if they offer good service. The amount is always at the discretion of the customer, but for safari guides in South Africa, Kenya or Tanzania we recommend something like US$ 10 to 15 per person per full day of service. For couples or groups, the amount per person may be proportionally lower. For non-contracted services, it is important to set a price with the guide before the service is provided. In restaurants the rule is to tip with a minimum of 10% of the bill value. In some restaurants the service is already included in the bill, in others not, but it is always expected to be paid (many waiters do not receive salary, only tips). Airport (use only those in uniforms and authorized companies, but prefer to use luggage trolleys when available) and hotel baggage handlers should be rewarded at an average of US$ 1-2 per bag. Car guards, especially in South Africa, really take care of your car and should get around US$ 1 when you leave the parking. Always prefer to tip in local currency. Reference amounts only.
